THE STORY SO FAR
ANTHEM are musians and fans ... big fans, of RUSH.
The music of RUSH has been the soundtrack of their lives - it's been their ANTHEM.
With well over 100 years of playing experience between them ANTHEM play in the style of RUSH. ANTHEM consistantly capture the power, energy and atmosphere of the classic era of RUSH.
ANTHEM started out with Mick McFarlane and Lindsay McGhie enjoying themselves in the quiet seclusion of a rehearsal room in early 2002. After a few weeks, John Roach, a friend of Mick's, joined in the fun on bass. It worked so well that a few weeks later he bought some keyboards along, then some bass pedals.
They were thoroughly enjoying getting to grips with classic progressive rock songs and started talking about vocals.
Initially Glenn Howes (great rock vocalist and NWOBHM stalwart) handled vocal duties, however he wasn't happy with the vocal range required, feeling he wasn't doing the material justice, and so he decided not to continue.
Another advert was required.
Then came Tom Alexander, he came along for a try out, could handle the range and things started to get more serious. In rehearsals the vocals sounded great, but live Tom's personality didn't come through. The ball had just started to roll with great gig reviews when he decided the direction ANTHEM were taking didn't suit him and he called it a day.
ANTHEM continued rehearsing and auditioning for a replacement vocalist/front man with Tom filling in as a 'hired gun'. A chance meeting with singer Colin Johnson who had worked with John for a few weeks in the late '70's moved the band another step closer to the present day...
And so here they are ............
